Sit and Stitch Groups - FREE!
We have groups that gather at the shop around the big table to sit and knit and crochet and they are free to join in and bring what ever you are working on!
Saturdays from 10:00am-4pm
The 2nd and 4th Thursday of the Month is our Late Night Sit & Stitch & Spin! From 4pm-8pm and bring any project or craft, including spinning and weaving projects! We have room for e-spinners, drop spindles, and floor wheels for spinning and we have room for both table and floor looms up to 28 inches.
Beginner Tunisian Crochet Class
Ready to add to your Crochet skills? Come learn Tunisian Crochet with Cassandra! Cassandra will lead you through learning the basic Tunisian stitch in this fun and easy ear warmer.
Materials Needed:
Malabrigo Rios or Germantown, or other Worsted Weight Yarn.
6.5mm/ k hook
Cost: $55

Time is 4-6pm
Beginner Cables.
Ready to learn to cable stitches for the first time? Want to learn the freedom of cables without a cable needle? Join Becky as she walk you through all the fun of cabling!! You will be learning how to read the cable chart, what the symbols mean, and creating the stunning cabled hat.
Materials needed:
Tsov Hat Pattern by Caitlin Hunter. Pattern available on Ravelry.
1 skein of worsted weight yarn. We recommend Germantown, Shelter or Malabrigo Rios.
Needles listed in pattern
Pre-Class Homework
Please note: You do need to complete the ribbed brim of the hat before class.
Materials are not included in the class but you can purchase before the class or bring your own if you have these in your stash.

April 4th, 4-6pm
First Pair of Socks Class
Ready to knit your first pair of socks? Join Becky as she walks you through all the fun of knitting your very own socks! You will learn to knit a cuff down pair of DK weight socks with the magic loop technique in this 4 part class. Please note you will have homework to complete between the classes.
Materials needed:
1 skein of DK weight yarn. Preferably a super wash merino yarn, that is not too dark or wildly variegated so you can read your knitting.
1 pair of US 3 or 3.25mm circular needles 32inch in length. Can be metal or wood, your preference
Please knit and block a 4.5x4.5” swatch in stockinette stitch once you sign up for the class and bring it with you.
Materials are not included in the class but you can purchase before the class or bring your own if you have these in your stash.
Cost: $85
Time: 4 Saturdays, 9am-11am
Dates: May 24th, 31st, June 7th, and 14th. These are all the class sessions, please inform your teacher if there is a date you will be absent.
Private Lessons:
We are opening up Private Lesson availability for Knit or Crochet again! Currently our teacher availability will be mornings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You must call the shop to schedule and pre-pay for your lesson. Cost is $45 for 1 hour. Lessons can be for beginner or more advanced lessons, project specific or swatches to practice certain stitches.
CLASS REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION
1. If you would prefer to sign-up over the phone, call The Modern Skein at 936-436-3615 with credit card pay for a spot.
2. There is a $5 cancellation fee. A 5-day notice is required for cancellation without additional penalty. Cancellations made within 5 days of a class are subject to a 50% class charge. Cancellations made the day of class and no-shows are not refundable.
3. Classes may be cancelled in the event of insufficient sign-ups - if we/the teacher has to cancel a class you will be notified & will be given a full refund.
