Sit and Stitch Groups - FREE! 

We have groups that gather at the shop around the big table to sit and knit and crochet and they are free to join in and bring what ever you are working on!

Saturdays from 10:00am-4pm 

The 2nd and 4th Thursday of the Month is our Late Night Sit & Stitch & Spin! From 4pm-8pm and bring any project or craft, including spinning and weaving projects! We have room for e-spinners, drop spindles, and floor wheels for spinning and we have room for both table and floor looms up to 28 inches. 

 

Morning Beginner Knitting
Dates: March 4th, or April 8th
Ready to learn knit? Join Lorraine as she walks you through all the fun of knitting your very own hat!! You will learn a cast on, Knit and purl stitches, and at the end, decreases to form the crown of your hat.
 
Materials needed:
1 skein of worsted weight yarn. We recommend Germantown or Malabrigo Rios. 
1 pair of US 8 or 5mm circular needles 16inch in length. Can be metal or wood, your preference.
 
Materials are not included in the class but you can purchase before the class or bring your own if you have these in your stash.
Cost: $55

Dates:  March 11th, or April 15th
Ready to learn Crochet? Join Lorraine as she walks you through all the fun of Crocheting your very first Cup Cozy! You will learn basic chain, single crochet and double crochet

1 skein of worsted weight yarn. We recommend Germantown or Malabrigo Rios
Hook, H or I

Beginner Tunisian Crochet Class

Ready to add to your Crochet skills? Come learn Tunisian Crochet with Cassandra! Cassandra will lead you through learning the basic Tunisian stitch in this fun and easy ear warmer.

Materials Needed:
Malabrigo Rios or Germantown, or other Worsted Weight Yarn. 

6.5mm/ k hook

Cost: $55

Dates: February 15th

Time is 4-6pm

New Year New Sweater!
Know how to knit and purl and do basic increases? Ready to make a sweater but nervous to try it yourself? Then this is the class for you! This class will be walking you though picking your size, swatching your yarn and reading the swatch and reading the pattern. 

Class meets from 9am-10am for 1 hour on February 22nd, March 1st, 8th, and 15th, with homework to complete between classes. 
 
We will be knitting the No Frills by Petite Knit, You will need to know now to do a long tail cast on or german twisted, Knit, Purl, Make 1 Left/right increases. There are german short rows which we will go over during the second class. 
 
You will need to purchase the pattern on Ravelry, have your DK weight yarn ready (we are recommending Scout or Estate DK.
 
Cost is $125 per person. 

Materials needed:

Sweater quantity of DK weight yarn. We are recommending Kelbourne Woolens Scout or RDF Estate DK, depending on the size you knit you will need 4-8 skeins. 

1 pair each of US 2.5 US 16inch & 32inch, US6 16inch & 32inch. Can be metal or wood, your preference.

You ill need to purchase the No Frills pattern on Ravelry - https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/no-frills-sweater

Please knit and block a 4.5x4.5” swatch in stockinette stitch on the US 6 once you sign up for the class and bring it with you. 

Materials are not included in the class but you can purchase from us before the class or bring your own if you have these in your stash.

Dates: February 22nd, March 1st, 8th, and 15th

Private Lessons:

We are opening up Private Lesson availability for Knit or Crochet again! Currently our teacher availability will be mornings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You must call the shop to schedule and pre-pay for your lesson. Cost is $45 for 1 hour. Lessons can be for beginner or more advanced lessons, project specific or swatches to practice certain stitches. 

 

CLASS REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION
1. If you would prefer to sign-up over the phone, call The Modern Skein at 936-436-3615 with credit card pay for a spot.

2. There is a $5 cancellation fee. A 5-day notice is required for cancellation without additional penalty. Cancellations made within 5 days of a class are subject to a 50% class charge. Cancellations made the day of class and no-shows are not refundable.

3. Classes may be cancelled in the event of insufficient sign-ups - if we/the teacher has to cancel a class you will be notified & will be given a full refund.
